Manchester City will step up their interest in Espanyol defender Aaron Martin during the January transfer window, according to the Daily Mail.
The report suggests that City launch a January bid for the 20-year-old with a view to replacing the injured Benjamin Mendy.
Martin was viewed as an alternative to Mendy in the summer when a deal looked unlikely. The £52 million summer signing is now likely to miss a large chunk of the season through injury.
Manchester United themselves are searching for a new left-back after failing to land one in the summer transfer window. Jose Mourinho has long been linked with a move for Tottenham’s Danny Rose, but Martin could be the cheaper option, with Spurs reluctant to sell.
Martin is a Spanish U-21 international and has also represented the Catalonian senior team. The youngster has come through the ranks at Espanyol and broke into the first team back in October 2016.
