Monday night marked Manchester City’s first home game of the 2017/18 season and what an eventful one it was!
The Blues were up against Everton, who usually provide a tough challenge, and this match was no different.
After a flurry of City chances, a quick counter attack led to Everton taking the lead through Wayne Rooney, who always enjoys his visits to the Etihad Stadium. The England international joined Alan Shearer in the Premier League 200 club with his strike.
Then came the first of two red cards during the match. City defender Kyle Walker was sent off for a second yellow after supposedly catching Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s face with his shoulder.
Raheem Sterling equalised for City in the second half after an assault on Everton’s goal, but, the action was not over there.
Morgan Schneiderlin was also sent off for a second yellow, for his sliding challenge on Sergio Aguero. Replays however, showed it was a harsh decision from the referee as it looked like the midfielder won the ball.
The match ended 1-1 but, at half time with 10 men and a goal down, many City fans would have taken a point.
So here are five things to take from the Etihad season opener against Everton.
