10 things you need to know about Benjamin Mendy

Manchester City have completed the signing of Benjamin Mnedy after a protracted saga came to its end on Monday morning.

Moving from AS Monaco, the French full-back joins Bernardo Silva, Ederson, Douglas Luiz, Kyle Walker and Danilo as the Blues’ sixth summer signing.

Here are 10 important things you need to know about City’s new man.

1) Born on July 17th 1994 in Longjumeau, a suburb of Paris, the attacking left-back is 23 years old.


2) In 2011 he signed his first professional contract – a three year deal with Normandy club Le Havre.


3) After having impressed at ‘Le Stade Oceane’ he earned himself a move down south in 2013 and signed for Olympique de Marseille.

4) He spent three seasons at ‘OM’ and racked up an impressive 101 caps scoring two goals.


5) New boy Mendy comes in at a height of 185cm (6 foot).


6) He has eight Champions League caps.

7) Mendy made his full international debut against Luxembourg in March 2017 and has four appearances in all. He has represented France at u16, u17, u18, u19 and u21 level.


8) He moved to his most recent club, AS Monaco, in 2016 and spent a single season in the principality, making 38 apperances for Leonardo Jardim’s team.

9) He made the 2016/17 Ligue 1 team of the season after having beaten PSG to the title with Les Monegasques. They also reached the Champions League semi-finals knocking out City and Borussia Dortmund along the way.


10) Mendy is very active on social media and teased fans with cryptic messages prior to his arrival. He has a large twitter following (240,000 followers).
