Mendy has enjoyed a quite exceptional season with Monaco, and has established himself as one of Europe’s most potent left-backs.
He’s attracted plenty of interest from a plethora of clubs across the world and is sure to be a man high in demand this summer, but City appear to be leading the chase to sign him.
Mendy’s pace and power down the left hand side was a pivotal part of Monaco’s exceptional 2016/17 season that saw them scoop the Ligue 1 title and also reach the semi-finals of the Champions League.
£40m is a high price to pay for a full-back, and it would indeed break the record for a wide defender, but Mendy has shown just how good he can be in recent times and would certainly bolster Pep Guardiola’s options.
