Opta Supercomputer predicts Man City to top Premier League table with Burnley victory

  • Opta Supercomputer makes prediction
  • Expectations are high for City

The Opta Supercomputer has predicted the outcome of Manchester City’s trip to Turf Moor this evening, and Pep Guardiola’s side are clear favourites to secure all three points.

After defeating Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium last Sunday, the Citizens will now make a small trip South to face relegation-prone Burnley.

It should be an easy win for Guardiola’s men on paper, but with the season coming to an end, anything is possible.

Both teams face different pressures, as one team aims for the title while the other is battling relegation. However, despite Man City now facing some pressure to win the league, Opta still predicts that the Carabao Cup winners will ease past Burnley today.

Man City are the favourites

According to the Opta Supercomputer, Man City have a 71% chance of defeating Burnley at Turf Moor this evening.

The home side, on the other hand, might have their fate set on relegation as they only have a 12% chance of taking the three points.

Scott Parker himself isn’t as confident and sees the Citizens as the best team in the world. The Clarets haven’t won a single one of their last five Premier League games, and changing that today will be a miracle, to say the least.

The top awaits Man City

It wasn’t easy for Man City following their draws last month. The title race seemed over, but Arsenal slipped on the way.

Guardiola’s men then went on a winning streak against Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea, not conceding a single goal in the process.

They did barely edge against the Gunners last Sunday, but that doesn’t discount the three points. City are only three points behind Arsenal now.

Winning today will put both clubs on equal terms. The Sky Blues, however, have a GD of +36, and the Gunners are at +37.

Even if they only win by a one-goal margin today, Guardiola’s men have scored more goals than Arsenal. Hence, a win today guarantees the top spot.

Erling Haaland willwant to improve his record

Of all the current Man City players, Erling Haaland has been a standout against Burnley. The Norwegian has scored four goals against the Clarets in three games.

This is just in the Premier League, and his total contributions against the English side are even greater. Haaland didn’t manage to score against Chelsea, but he has found his form again.

He scored the winner against Arsenal and was in the right places multiple times. It’s a shame that the 25-year-old couldn’t net more, but he’ll be looking forward to doing that against Burnley.
