On a clear, humid night, a world apart from Tuesday’s thunderstorm at the Etihad, City ran out 4-0 victors to Borussia Mönchengladbach to kick off their Champions League campaign in the perfect way. Manchester’s tropical weather continues to amaze.
Other than a weather change, Guardiola made a precautionary personnel change in swapping out David Silva so Ilkay Gundogan could make his debut in blue.
An Aguero brace saw City go into the half-time interval ahead for the 6th time this season. His first on the eight minute mark looked all too easy when Aleksandar Kolarov drilled a pass across the box for the Argentine to knock home, his double came from the penalty spot just twenty minutes later.
Completing his second hat-trick in as many European games, Aguero latched onto Raheem Sterling’s visionary through ball and rounded goalkeeper Yann Sommer to tap into an empty net. Aguero’s goal killed the game at a time when City were truly dominating and knocking on the door of the German defence.
Three subs in quick succession saw Gael Clichy, Leroy Sane and Kelechi Iheanacho join in with the action and the latter two cleverly combined for City’s fourth. Notably it was a 20-year-old and a 19-year-old pairing up for the goal, just a small glimpse into City’s future there.
7 games and 7 wins, City’s momentum continues and It’s certainly making player ratings easier.
