Manchester City defender Jason Denayer has joined fellow Premier League side Sunderland on a season-long loan.
The 22-year-old has spent the last two seasons on loan at Celtic and Galatasaray respectively, but will now gain top flight experience with David Moyes’ side.
Denayer has fallen down the pecking order at the Etihad, with new manager Pep Guardiola preferring to experiment with youth star Tosin Adarabioyo in pre-season.
Speculation has surrounded Denayer all summer, with several reports worldwide reporting that he would return to Galatasaray for a second consecutive season. However, publications on Deadline Day claimed that City had rejected a deal for him to return to Turkey in favour of him playing in the Premier League for a season.
The Belgian international, who broke into the national team’s plans last campaign, follows in the footsteps of his compatriot Adnan Januzaj and Chelsea centre-back Papa Djilobodji in moving to the Stadium of Light.
