- Doku has four goals this season
- The Belgian is keen to add more
- He has registered 13 assists in all competition
Manchester City forward Jeremy Doku says he wants to add more goals to his game after admitting he can do better than his four-goal return so far this season.
Doku joined City from French club Stade Rennais in 2023 for a reported £55 million. Since then, he has made 124 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side.
However, with just 18 goals in that time, the Belgian international is keen to score more and improve his chance conversion as he continues to develop.
The 23-year-old has been excellent this season, scoring in City’s 3-0 win at Chelsea earlier this month, but he is not content with his attacking output. He believes that improving his goal tally will be a key factor in making the step up to being an elite forward.
Jeremy Doku desperate to add to Man City goal tally
Four goals in 40 appearances this season is surprisingly low for a player of Doku’s quality. The young forward is a long way off the likes of Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr, with 18 so far.
Doku does have 13 assists to his name in 2025-26, but admitted he is determined to score more often and add to his tally.
He told The Guardian: “Of course [he wants to score more]. I feel like if I have goals, we are talking about a different conversation. Assists – I’m fine.

“I have to be more in the areas where you can score easy goals, tap-ins. When I look at my goals, even this season, every time they are with dribbles. I want to score even five tap-ins a-season – that would make a big difference.
“A winger needs to score. If I have those goals then I believe that I can get there to be the world’s best winger, for sure, 100%.”
Doku grew up wanting to emulate iconic wingers
Although he started out as a striker, Doku says his move to the wing as a youngster meant he grew up closely watching some legendary wide players.
He continued: “I was a striker when I was nine, 10 years old.” Then I became a winger from about 12. I liked to watch Neymar, [Lionel] Messi, [Franck] Ribéry, [Eden]Hazard, [Arjen] Robben, Ronaldinho.
“Then I created my own thing. I can’t do what they do and they don’t do what I do. I try to do my own thing with what my qualities are.”

Now a more mature player, Doku recognises his own talents differ from some of the stars he once wished to emulate. In particular, his pace is something that sets him apart from even some of the best players in the world.
“I’ve always been fast, he said. “My brother was fast, my dad, so it’s been in the family. I think [Abdukodir] Khusanov and I are the fastest in the squad. Over 15 metres, I back myself. But over maybe 40, he will win.”
“When I play now, most of the time there are two defenders on me, which is not a problem because that means another player is free. But I know one versus one, that’s my biggest quality.”
Doku could become a world-class attacker with more goals
While he has impressed in his third season at the Etihad, Doku is right that his goalscoring output could be improved.
Four strikes in 40 games is a measly return for an attacking player at a team like City. If he can add more goals to his game, the Belgian could become one of the best forwards in the world.
He already possesses the pace, skill and dribbling ability to be an elite forward, but improving his end-product could be what elevates him from a good player to a truly great one.
