Milan and Valencia chase Mangala

Both Valencia and AC Milan are showing interest in Eliaquim Mangala according to the Daily Mirror. The defender looks to be on his way out of the door at City following the £42 million signing of John Stones and two poor years for The Blues, and is garnering interest from outside of the Premier League.

There were doubts lingering over his future for the beginning few weeks of the summer, but a move didn’t seem to be forthcoming. City have been looking for a new defender all summer, indicating that perhaps they were ready to cut their losses on the French international. Aymeric Laporte, Leonardo Bonucci and John Stones were all targeted, with the Englishman eventually joining from Everton earlier this week.

That signing could spell the end for Mangala at the Etihad, with Jorge Mendes allegedly trying to find him a new employer. AC Milan and Valencia could go up against each other to bring in the defender before the transfer window closes, and it is thought that Pep Guardiola would likely let him leave the club.

Since he moved to the Premier League for £32 million in the summer of 2014 Mangala has played 64 times, but struggled more last year with the arrival of Nicolas Otamendi from Valencia, the club Mangala could eventually end up at. Even in the three-man defence that’s likely to become more common this year, the 25-year-old would be likely to be shut out.
