Manchester City will take on Borussia Dortmund on Thursday, in what should have been the second of their two matches in China.
However, concerns over the quality of the pitch in Beijing prevented City taking on fierce rivals Manchester United in the first Manchester derby outside of the UK; a game which would also have seen the renewal of the rivalry between managers Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho.
Having lost a number of key players already this summer, Dortmund were expected to be easier opponents than in past meetings. This proved to be a figment of the imagination as Thomas Tuchel’s side demolished United 4-1 in the opening match of the International Champions Cup.
As a twist to the bog-standard tale, we decided to make a combined XI out of the squads picked for the pre-season tour rather than full squads.
