Manchester City made history last night after Kevin De Bruyne struck home in a 1-0 home leg victory which seen the blues knockout Paris Saint-Germain (3-2 on aggregate). Climbing higher and higher, qualification to the Champions League semi-final sets a club record and ranks City at 8th in the European club index.
PSG fielded an experimental 3-4-1-2 formation and should have been punished from it, had Sergio Aguero managed to tuck away his penalty. Forced changes influenced the French side to revert back to a more typical 4-3-3 and that penalty miss was looking more and more haunting as they grew into the game. However, all nerves were settled when Kevin De Bruyne picked up the ball just outside the PSG box 15 minutes from time; he took one touch around the rushing defenders and curled it into the bottom right corner. PSG needed two goals now and only really threatened City once, when Cavani’s one-on-one chipped effort was stopped by the ever-reliant Joe Hart.
City now face Real Madrid, Benfica/Bayern or Atleti/Barcelona – a fate that will be decided in the coming days. Here are four things we learned from last night’s magical performance…
