Writing his own script, Kevin De Bruyne is on course to land the lead role after his Guardiola auditions this season. Forget Silva and Aguero, KDB is the man Pep should be planning to build his City team around.
Since breaking the club-record transfer fee last summer, Kevin De Bruyne has exceeded fan expectations at the club and in less than a year has certainly cemented his place in the starting XI. The Belgian fit straight in and was an instant impact early on in the season, but it’s only been recently that we have seen him dominate games; the development of the 24-year-old really is exciting.
After sustaining a knee injury in late January, KDB has come back better than ever. From the outside looking in, De Bruyne does his talking on the pitch and keeps himself to himself and although he’s always been excellent at City, I think now is the time that he has found his feet in English football and has the confidence to take responsibility in controlling games on his own.
Directly involved in 26 goals in the 33 games he’s represented City, De Bruyne is already surpassing the likes of Silva and Nasri in the playmaking roles. He’s playing at a world-class level and always improving – the ceiling on this guy reaches unthinkable heights and now he’s back in form for City, doubts about a top four finish have slightly faded.
In his two returning performances for City, his goals and all-round excellent play has inspired the right results for the blues and in them games there has been a certain passion and fire that Kevin’s been showing. He seems up for it now, maybe its comfort with the team in the dressing room that has grown over time helping him properly showcase his talents and for that reason he feels a part of the team.
I’m sure Pep Guardiola has his plans mapped out already, but from watching the City team this year he can hopefully see that revolving a team around Kevin De Bruyne could turn us into an elite club.
