City found an unlikely hero in Willy Caballero who saved three penalties in what was a majestic penalty shoot-out performance from the second choice goalkeeper.
City had taken the lead through Brazilian Fernandinho before his goal was cancelled out by his compatriot Phillipe Coutinho late on. This was Pellegrini’s third major trophy as City boss and his second League Cup since joining the club in 2013.
