Manchester City are set to battle fellow Premier League side Chelsea in their pursuit of Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, who is currently the top flight’s top goalscorer.
The 28-year-old has bagged an exceptional 15 goals in just 17 games for Leicester and has inevitably attracted interest from the financial heavyweights in English football.
With Leicester currently leading the pack in the Premier League, rivals are desperate to knock their confidence and sentenced them to a poor vein of form. The loss of Vardy could cause the necessary disruption at the King Power Stadium that will see City return to their status as title favourites.
The Foxes’ forward has been valued at around £30 million after his unbelievable season so far, however, Claudio Ranieri has insisted that Vardy will not be leaving the club in the near future.
Chelsea made the first move with new manager Guus Hiddink worried that Diego Costa is becoming too complacent but the Telegraph Sport have claimed that Manuel Pellegrini has made an enquiry about the England international.
City’s season has been affected by injuries to star striker Sergio Aguero and, with Wilfried Bony often heavily criticised by fans, a January move could be made to bolster the Sky Blues attacking options.
