Four findings: City 4-2 Gladbach

If ever 90 minutes summed up a season, or a football club itself, then Tuesday night had Manchester City written all over it. From kamikaze defending to relentless pressure that looked for all the world as though it was going to be one of those nights – then in the space of six second half minutes, everything changed. From the ridiculous to the sublime, and then a quick pit-stop at the sublimely ridiculous. A microcosm of Manchester City.

As news filtered through that Sevilla were beating Juventus in Group D’s other game, initial frustration that the Blues were wasting a gift-wrapped opportunity to win the group, turned to unbridled joy and relief. City finally got their reward for a commanding second 45, which they played out predominantly in Gladbach’s half, with three goals in six minutes from Raheem Sterling and Wilfried Bony. A carnival atmosphere swept around the Etihad, a stark contrast from the exasperation seen but an hour earlier. The emotional rollercoaster out in full force. Typical City at its finest. We wouldn’t want it any other way would we?

In the wake of last night’s victory, we take a look at the key talking points in the ensuing slideshow.

matchday.
