Manchester City midfielder Fernando is aiming to prove his critics wrong after a mixed start to life at The Etihad.
The £12 million signing from Portuguese side Porto was limited to just 22 appearances for The Blues last term in what was a campaign he described as injury-ridden; a persistent groin problem preventing him from reaching his highest capabilities.
But since recovering from this, the Brazilian has seen his form take a step up and he has been enjoying his fair share of first-team football in the holding midfield role in the last few games. He impressed during Wednesday’s Capital One Cup demolition of Crystal Palace as he looks to put last season’s trophy less campaign behind him.
And now he wants to win as much silverware as possible in Manchester…
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Fernando expressed: “My name will only be recognised in this club from the moment we actually start winning trophies.”
“I know that I have to improve, and that is what I will keep doing. Only when we win things, and I am contributing something, will my name become known at this club.”
“When you are not at 100 per cent it is hard, especially in the Premier League, and that is what happened to me last season. But I am back from my injury and playing well. I feel fit and that is the best aspect of it.”
Fernando will be looking to break into the side on Saturday afternoon when City welcome Norwich City to The Etihad.
