An official statement on Manchester City’s website has announced that the Premier League leaders are to conduct a process of consultation with fans of the club in order to increase the debate about the club’s badge, debate which had previously only been between fans and not on a formal level. However, with the club having just announced a profit of £10 million for the last fiscal year, this new announcement is the next step on Manchester City’s journey.
While the current badge is the one by which City are now known around the world, some are still harking back to the days of the old circular badges of the 1970s, and believe that the one adopted in 1997 should be replaced. Now, the club have heeded the call for debate about it and are opening up the floor for fans – although largely Cityzen members – to give their views on the topic.

Newly-announced, the start of the process is to occur prior to Saturday’s game against Bournemouth, and a consultation area has already been set to up at The Etihad where fans can express their opinion about the badge. This will consist of a questionnaire, and will allow fans to truly show what they feel about a vital representation of the club. The process is expected to continue for around a month, with the results to be given to the public over the course of the 2015-16 season.
The club has also announced a number of lectures from Mancunian historian Gary James, who is to talk about what the badges mean and the history and change of all of the three main badges worn throughout the illustrious history of the club.
Talking on the club’s website, chief executive Ferran Soriano revealed: “We are looking for our fans to share their views as to what they consider to be the most authentic symbols of the Club. The views of our Cityzens are essential to the process; they will have a real say on the future of our badge.”
