Manchester City’s record signing Kevin De Bruyne has spoken out about his previous stint in the Premier League and believes the player we see today is not comparable to the one we saw at Chelsea.
Speaking to the Mirror at the club’s launch of the new third kit, De Bruyne said:
“You can’t compare me with who I was two years ago at Chelsea. It’s a different situation and I’m a completely different person.
“I was 20 then and worked with three managers, and just didn’t play that much. I just wanted to play.”
De Bruyne didn’t get much of a look-in at Chelsea and it was well-documented that Jose Mourinho didn’t believe he was up to scratch, citing his attitude and mentality as a major issue.

But the Belgian believes his mentality is something he has improved on since leaving for Chelsea and is now more complete on and off the pitch.
“It also depends how you are mentally. Your mentality can help you as a player and I think I’ve grown in that part.”

A £50 millon plus transfer brought a lot of pressure on the shoulders of the Bundesliga Player of the Year but the 24-year old admitted that he was always aware of the pressure and the fact he would need to hit the ground running.
“You know there is going to be a lot of pressure,” he said. “When I was coming here, the first thing I said to everyone was that when I get to England I’ll have to prove I’m a good player.”
