It’s not every day young football fans get to meet Premier League stars – so when we told our youngest FBB TV presenters Bruno & Geele they’d be travelling up to Manchester to interview Yaya Toure, they couldn’t quite believe it! With Manchester City top of the Premier League, and Yaya showing the kind of form that helped them lift the 2013/2014 trophy, the boys were very excited about this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get to know a truly world class player.
Showing great composure and confidence, the young FBB TV presenters asked Yaya a variety of questions – and Yaya responds warmly and with some great answers, talking about his favourite player that he’s played with, City’s new signings for the season, the importance of education in fighting racism and finally his work with UNEP protecting elephants as a goodwill ambassador. Yaya even responds positively to a request from the youngsters to “sign for FBB” – ensuring that the organisation bags yet another top Premier League player in 2015 after the “signings” of Santi Cazorla and Yannick Bolasie… Not a bad midfield that!
The boys are part of the FBB Schools programme, a 3-year programme which provides football coaching, tutoring, peer mentoring and travel. The program is working with students in years 6 –10 who are underachieving and misbehaving in the classroom but are passionate about football. It harnesses the power of football to engage and inspire students and supports them to improve their attendance, behaviour in class, attitude to learning and aspirations for the future.
