Inter Milan manager Roberto Mancini is looking to continue the raid of his former club with the signing of Manchester City left-back Gael Clichy, according to Sky Sports’ Italian correspondent Gianluca Di Marzio.
The incoming manager wants to strengthen his squad before the start of his first full Serie A campaign in charge at the San Siro since returning to the club earlier this year. Di Marzio understands that Zenit St. Petersburg full-back Domenico Criscito is Mancini’s number one target, but the Italian will turn to French international Gael Clichy if he fails to persuade Criscito to return to Italy.
The former Manchester City boss has already lured injury-plagued Stevan Jovetic to the moral capital of Italy and wants to add players to his squad who have worked under him at previous clubs.
Clichy is currently entangled in a duel with fellow teammate Aleksandar Kolarov for the first-choice left-back role at the Etihad, which has been shared between the two players since Manuel Pellegrini took over in 2013. However, if Pellegrini chooses Kolarov more in the opening weeks of the season, the former Arsenal man could look to leave the dethroned Premier League champions in search of more consistent first-team football.
