According to the Telegraph, Manchester City are expected to make an opening £40 million bid for top target Kevin De Bruyne after Director of Football Txiki Begiristain held talks with the Wolfsburg hotshot.
Begiristain is understood to have travelled to London last Friday, where De Bruyne and his agent were based due to commitments in the Emirates Cup competition.
City’s offer to De Bruyne would consist of a five-year deal, with wages of around £180,000 a week.
But the opening bid is seen as not much more than a test to see Wolsburg’s resolve, as they would likely demand a sum of £57m for a player who was clearly the best player in the Bundesliga last term.
Wolfsburg boss Dieter Hecking revealed that City are yet to table an official offer for the 24-year old but that could all change in the next week.
De Bruyne himself has hinted that a move away is likely and City are said to be keen on bringing him in to play alongside the incredible attacking talents of Sterling, Silva and Aguero.
Stevan Jovetic is on the verge of signing for Inter Milan and so City have made it their mission to acquire an attacking prospect who could take them to the next level.
