Raheem Sterling’s move to Manchester City has certainly not evaded headlines but the 20-year old now plans to make headlines for the right reasons and help the Blues reach new heights.
Sterling is scheduled to make his Blues debut on Tuesday against Roma in the International Champions Cup and admits a primary factor in moving to City was the quality of players and the level that this side can reach.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Sterling spoke of why he chose City.
“It was about the direction they were going – in recent years they have come a long way.
“They just seem like they are progressing and looking to dominate in England and Europe.
“Champions League is always a good thing to be involved in. As a young player you want to be challenging yourself in the best competitions, against the best players and with the best players.
“It’s a competition that gives me an opportunity to show my ability on the biggest platform.”
Sterling clearly fancies his chances against the best players in the world, though he is already aware that City possess a host of world-class players and believes playing alongside them can raise his game.
“This team has great players – it’s a really good squad but players like Aguero, Silva and Yaya can only improve you.”
City identified the youngster as one of their top targets for the summer window and the former QPR academy product was delighted that City were so desperate to bring him in.
“It was really flattening that City wanted me so much. It made me feel great. The only thing I can do now is try to repay City.
“The way to do that is performing on the pitch and trying to do my best and bring trophies to the club.”
