With the signings of English duo Raheem Sterling and Fabian Delph confirmed and finalised in the last few days, City now turn their attention to another of their summer targets: 23-year-old attacking midfielder Kevin De Bruyne.
Wolfsburg manager Dieter Hecking has spoken out about Belgium international De Bruyne and his future at the club from Lower Saxony.
Having already pursued the ex-Chelsea man, City were reportedly interested in lodging a €45 million bid for the Bundesliga player of the year. But today German manager Hecking said otherwise.
“Kevin is a player the world wants. I think he will stay for a minimum one more year” he said.
The genuineness of his words can be questioned as De Bruyne has shown an interest in coming back to the Premier League, somewhere he felt he didn’t really get his chance under Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea. Could this also be a ploy to bump up a potential fee for the Wolfsburg playmaker from the man at the helm?
What’s worth noting is that when De Bruyne himself was quizzed on his future, he revealed that he has been told not to talk.
Should he sign, De Bruyne would be City’s third signing of the summer and would add to an already formidable midfield.
