City have confirmed the signing of Fabian Delph on a five-year deal from Aston Villa, in a shock turn of events.
Last week Delph’s to City was nailed on and the former Leeds player was scheduled for his medical.
But the 25-year old had a dramatic change of heart and then issued a statement committing his future to the club.
There had been some reports that Delph had failed his medical, although Villa boss Tim Sherwood revealed that the Villa skipper never had a medical and his talisman was keen to stay at Villa Park.
However, now, Delph’s head has turned dramatically and he has penned a five-year deal with the club and becomes City fourth signing of the summer, following on from the signings of youngsters Enes Unal and David Faupala and the all-important addition of Raheem Sterling.
He was pictured entering the same hospital as Sterling as he prepared for a medical and now the deal has been wrapped up conclusively.
Delph signed a new deal with Villa in January, which entailed an £8m release which City have now met.
The imminent departure of Christian Benteke to Liverpool may have influenced Delph’s decision and City have now found a midfielder who pivotally, meets their home-grown quota.
City’s new man will wear the No.18 shirt with the club, recently vacated by Frank Lampard.
