Manchester City have completed the signing of Bursaspor striker Enes Unal for around £2 million, making him their first signing of the summer. The 18-year-old is expected to go straight into City’s Elite Development Squad, where he’ll prepare under Patrick Vieira and make the jump up to the senior team in the coming years.
Reports linking The Blues to Unal came almost out of nowhere from the Turkish press, but they reported City had already agreed a deal to sign the striker, beating Premier League champions Chelsea to the signing in the meantime. With just a year left on his contract with his current side, the fee was likely significantly less than would have been otherwise expected.
The fee is a little over £2 million, and includes a 10% sell-on clause for Bursaspor in the next sale.
In his two years with Bursapor, Enes Unal managed to get 35 games after making his debut at 16. 34 of those games may have been off the bench, but during that time he netted four goals, including one three minutes into his debut which made him the youngest scorer in the Super Lig.
With players like Jose Angel Pozo also in contention, it’s difficult to see Unal getting a large amount of playing time for City’s senior side this season. For that reason, he’s likely to ply his trade under Patrick Vieira, although hopefully an external loan is also a possibility.
