Manchester City have been linked heavily linked with Fulham youngster Patrick Roberts, and it the winger seemed destined for the Etihad. It was thought that the Blues were close to bringing in Roberts and would then look at loaning him out in Europe.
But now, Joe Bernstein of the Mail writes that French outfit Paris Saint-Germain have expressed an interest in Roberts, with City and Fulham still struggling to decide on a final fee. It is thought that the Cottagers want around £10m for the England u19 international, but City value him considerably cheaper as his contract expires in a years time.
The article continues and indicates that City could still strike a deal to land one of England’s most promising talents, but PSG are monitoring proceedings very closely and would only have to pay £300,000 for Roberts when his contract expires, because that is the rule in place for overseas clubs.
City would have to go to a tribunal next year should the deal not be concluded this summer.
It would be a real blow if City were to lose out on Roberts, who has clearly been identified as a top English talent. Hopefully the club can come to some agreement with Fulham and prevent PSG from achieving quite the heist.
