The Daily Mail’s Chris Wheeler believes City are now more confident of signing Kevin De Bruyne, amid reports his agent will ask Wolfsburg to listen to offers for the Belgian when he meets with the Bundesliga side over a new contract in the coming days. If they agree, it could put the former Chelsea man a step closer to signing for City.
With none of the ‘high-quality individuals’ promised by Khaldoon Al Mubarak as yet signed, it’s imperative City make moves with the transfer window having officially opened now. Pogba looks likely to move to Barcelona in 2016 – with some reports saying the move is almost complete – but a move for De Bruyne now looks more likely. Previously, there had been intense speculation he was set to sign a new contract with Wolfsburg, with his current one also running until 2019.
And, while the former Chelsea player is still on post-season holiday, his agent is set to hold talks with the Bundesliga side in the coming days. Discussions about a higher salary will be occurring, with his agent indicating that’d show how highly Wolfsburg think of their Belgian star, but it’s also thought De Bruyne is open-minded and will ask his current employers to listen to offers.
City are not believed to be Kevin De Bruyne’s only suitors, with a move to Manchester United reported earlier in the season (although not so much now) and Paris Saint-Germain are thought to be keen. The Telegraph’s Mark Ogden also says De Bruyne likes the sound of a move to Bayern Munich in 2016, after one more year with his current side.
