City are prepared to meet Pogba’s fee and wage requirements says Simon Mullock at The Mirror, but are waiting on the French midfielder to tell them he wants to return to Manchester before making a formal approach to Juventus for one of The Blues’ top summer targets.
Speculation about Pogba quietened down somewhat amid increased speculation about a move from City for Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling, coupled with rumours the French midfielder was set to stay with Juventus past the summer window before making the move to Barcelona in 12 months. However, the rumours linking him to City have again increased and The Blues could be willing to shell out a huge fee to land him.
It had been rumoured City were baulking at Juve’s £71 million asking price for the former Manchester United midfielder, but with the pressure on Txiki Begiristain and Manuel Pellegrini to rebuild the side for a reinvigorated title challenge next season they appear to be willing to lay out the funds to sign the young midfielder – at least according to Simon Mullock.
It’s also being said City have already spoken to Mino Raiola about bringing Pogba to Eastlands, with The Blues allegedly willing to pay the France international a basic wage of £240,000 per week as well as bonuses. This would make him one of the highest-paid players at the club, piling on the pressure next season.
If Pogba does confirm to Etihad chiefs that he wants to move to East Manchester this summer, then he’ll almost certainly be The Blues’ most expensive capture of the window, and of their history. Barring a shock move for Messi, that is.
