City could send Patrick Roberts on loan in Europe when he completes his move from Fulham according to the Daily Mail – in an article written by Joe Bernstein.
The youngster’s move to City is almost imminent and is expected to be finalised in the next two weeks. It is unlikely that the winger would come straight into the City squad and so a loan move would be in line for Roberts.
A return on loan to Fulham had been mentioned but it now looks as if City are exploring other alternatives.
There is concern as to whether a stint in the Championship or a lowly Premier League side would be beneficial to the England Youth international development and whether it would compliment his playing style.
That is why City are believed to be looking at the possibility of sending Roberts on loan to a team in a more coveted league and a higher standard. Countries such as France, Belgium, Holland and Spain have all been mentioned and would likely act as the stepping stone for the 18-year old to push for a spot in the first team.
We have seen the likes of Marcos Lopes endure a highly beneficial campaign on loan at Lille in France, while City sent two players on loan in Holland in 14/15; Albert Rusnak and Sinan Bytyqi.
It would seem a shrewd move for the club to look at sending their talents across Europe as opposed to in the lower leagues in England, giving them the best possible chance of making it in the first team and being ready for the level.
