Samir Nasri has confirmed he has no desire to leave City this summer, despite some fans wanting him gone after a somewhat disappointing in the sky blue of Manchester City, a season which was ended early due to an injury picked up moments into his appearance against Spurs in May.
He’s currently recuperating from that injury, and has since reassured fans that he wants to stay and that he wants to have a great season in the coming campaign, hopefully helping City win titles in the process. He has once again confirmed his desire to remain at Eastlands, saying he’s wanted at the club; “I signed a five-year contract and everybody at the club wants me to stay.”
“It’s up to the manager. We had an on-and-off season, I had a lot of injuries and I want to take back the chance.”
“But I will be in Manchester, having a great season and winning silverware – that’s what’s going to happen next year.”
One of the major reasons some were calling for the departure of Samir Nasri was to allow for some of the names we’ve been linked with in the last few weeks to come in and make an impression. These include Nasri’s French compatriot Paul Pogba, former Chelsea man Kevin De Bruyne and perhaps the most commonly linked, Raheem Sterling.
However, the ex-Arsenal midfielder had something to say on transfers as well, saying “we’re going to buy some players to try to improve the squad, to improve the depth as well.”
“If we want to be competitive in all the competitions, we need to have greater depth in the squad.”
“If we want to be competitive in the Champions League, which is one of the main targets of the club, and if we want to fight for every competition, that’s what you need to do.”
Since making the move from The Emirates to The Etihad in 2011, Nasri has received positive and negative reviews, with some praising his ability – indeed, he was key in Pellegrini’s first season, as City took the league title – while others criticised his attitude and apparent unwillingness to track back.
Nevertheless, with an injuryless season, Nasri could be key once again for The Blues, despite the rumoured additions this summer.
