Arsenal will turn down any City offers for Jack Wilshere says Jeremy Wilson from The Telegraph, but won’t be rushed into offering him a new contract in order to keep him out of the hands of The Blues, amid rumours that he’s a backup target to Paul Pogba, should City not be able to complete a move for the Frenchman who is thought to be a top target for the club.
This news comes after reports Wilshere was already considering his future at The Emirates, due to the fact he could be finding it increasingly harder to get gametime under Arsene Wenger, which may have caused him to look elsewhere. There were also reports that he’d already asked England teammates about living in the Manchester area.
If the Blues were to make a move for the Arsenal midfielder, he’s likely to cost around £40 million, which at present would make him City’s record signing (although maybe not for long, if Raheem Sterling completes a transfer to Eastlands). That £40 million is a lot to reject for Arsenal, and it might suggest that Wilshere does have a price in their eyes.
There were rumours Arsenal were willing to double Wilshere’s contract in order to persuade him to stay, but given that his current one doesn’t expire until 2018 they aren’t rushing to do that, knowing full well they don’t need to sell one of their prized possessions.
The rumours City could make a bid for the 23-year-old have been met with mixed reactions by City fans, with some keen to bring him in following impressive performances for England, while others are put off by his injury record, which is lengthy.
