Manchester City are set to make a final ‘take-it-or-leave-it’ bid of £40 million, plus £5 million add-ons, for Liverpool youngster Raheem Sterling say the Sunday Express.
With two previous bids of £30 and £40 million being rejected by the Anfield outfit City are desperate to secure the 20 year old’s services for next season, and a deal for Sterling could allegedly be completed within the next few days. The interest for the ex-QPR academy player comes after Sterling rejected a reported £100k-a-week contract to stay at Liverpool next season. Though the winger hasn’t officially requested to leave the club as yet, he made his sentiments clear as his agent Aidy Ward told the London Evening Standard ” He’s not signing for £700, £800, £900 thousand a week. He is not signing”
The England international didn’t hit the dizzy heights of his 2013/14 season this year and had a fairly quiet season netting only 7 goals. As City prepare to completely refurbish their footballing fortunes on the pitch this summer, they won’t want to be caught up in a long-winded bidding war for London-born Sterling and are aiming to complete his signing before they jet off down-under for a pre-season tour of Australia in July.
As for Liverpool, they have got on with business fairly swiftly with the signings of James Milner, Danny Ings and Adam Bogdan already confirmed in the recent weeks just passed. As the Reds look to secure the signing of Southampton full-back Nathaniel Clyne in the coming weeks, they realise a failure to sell Sterling may scupper their chances of funding a deal for 24 year old Clyne.
