Manchester City and Belgium captain Vincent Kompany has spoken out about fellow countryman and Manchester City transfer target Kevin De Bruyne.
As City pursue the ex-Chelsea playmaker, who is set to be part of their massive summer revamp, City skipper Kompany spoke highly of his compatriot. “Kevin is a phenomenal talent,” said the 29 year old. “He’s a game-changer, he’s efficient in front of goal but he’s also a great passer, which is probably his biggest quality.”
De Bruyne has been heavily linked with the Blues for a couple of months now and though Kompany has not made it his mission to persuade him to move to City, he is aware of the impact he would have on any side he joins.
“I try not to influence too much, but I do recognise the fact that he’s an unbelievable talent and any team he goes to, he will make that team stronger.”
De Bruyne has quickly become one of the most sought after players in world football after a superb season in Germany for Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg. He racked up 10 league goals and 20 Bundesliga assists in 34 appearances for the team from Lower Saxony. He finished the season with a trophy to name as Wolfsburg beat Borussia Dortmund in the DFB-Pokal final, a game in which he scored.
Contract talks between Wolfsburg and De Bruyne have allegedly hit the buffers, as the German side attempt to thrash out a deal to keep their Belgian gem in Germany next season.
Kompany’s comments come off the back of two failed bids for England International and Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling, with City reported to have had bids of £30 and £40 million rejected by the Anfield side. With the Sterling-saga halted, Txiki and co. look to turn their attention to De Bruyne and his situation in Germany in an attempt to bring him to the North West.
