Pogba to cause bidding war?

Paul Pogba could be set to be the subject of a bidding war featuring City this summer according to the Daily Star, after Paris Saint-Germain were rumoured to be willing to meet the high price of £70 million slapped onto the French midfielder this summer.

Pogba is thought to still be one of City’s top targets this summer window, despite rumours he’ll stay with Juventus until 2016 in order to bag a Barcelona move in 12 months. He’s also been linked with a move to Real Madrid, Manchester United, Chelsea, and now Paris Saint-Germain.

The main stumbling block for most clubs was thought to be the price, which is substantial for a player of his age – although his quality speaks for itself. In terms of City, it’s nearly twice as much as the current record fee paid, which was £38 million for Sergio Aguero four years ago. With The Blues also heavily linked with other expensive targets including Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling, links with Pogba have cooled off somewhat, especially with rumours he prefers a Spanish move over a Premier League return.

Real Madrid have yet to decide if they want to move for the Frenchman, as they are hesitant to take on the price, although he would represent a marquee signing. Meanwhile, Barcelona can’t sign him until at least January, and probably wouldn’t until next summer anyway.

These leaves City and PSG to battle it out this window for the former Manchester United man. Both are thought to be willing to pay his wage demands, but it might all come down to who is willing to pay Juventus the most.
