Liverpool are set to call City’s bluff on Raheem Sterling according to The Mirror, amidst claims City have told The Reds they’ve now made their final offer for the English winger. If this is what City have told the Merseyside club, it would be in an attempt to get them to lower their valuation of their prized youngster, with other clubs not looking ready to bid.
However, Liverpool look set to hold firm and not buckle under pressure, still trying to get the full £50 million fee for the Jamaican-born player. They’ve now rejected two offers for Sterling from Manchester City, and given 20% of any transfer fee goes to Queens Park Rangers, The Reds want to squeeze as much from the deal as possible.
There are rumours City could still make a further £40 million, straight cash, bid for a player who is one of their big targets this summer. And, in reality, £5 million makes no difference when talking about a player who could potentially be here for years of his career, winning many titles and trophies in the process.
If Liverpool are ready to hold firm, and City really were bluffing – which seems likely, considering the level of interest in Sterling this summer – then we could have to settle in for a long battle, haggling over price. One would hope City do the sensible thing, realise they’re paying for potential as well as ability, and bid enough to get their man instead of messing about.
