City’s hopes of signing Kevin De Bruyne have been boosted after talks over a new deal with Wolfsburg stalled say The Telegraph. The Belgian was offered a new deal with his current club in order to ward off interest from City and other sides, with The Blues having reportedly put him near the top of their list of targets for the summer window.
The former Chelsea man was set to hold talks with the Bundesliga side over a big new deal in the coming days, but hasn’t heard from the club about it. If they continue to give him the cold shoulder, he could be forced out of the German side and into the clutches of City – or another team interested.
Nevertheless, Wolfsburg are set to make a big profit on the Belgium international, with him now rated at £36 million despite signing from Chelsea less than 18 months ago for around half of that fee. And, if he does stay, they earn the efforts of an already-fantastic, high-potential young attacking player. The dynamism and assists he provide are what’s gained him interest from City, but it remains to be seen if they’ll be able to follow through on this interest, especially if Raheem Sterling is the priority.
