According to the Telegraph, City have added England and Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph to their summer shopping list, should moves for priority targets such as Paul Pogba fall through. He’s also homegrown and fairly young, two traits which would make Delph valuable to The Blues.
Over the last 12 months, Delph has made a name for himself in the Villa squad, which has also won him call-ups to the England squad by Roy Hodgson, for whom he has now made 6 appearances, as well as over 100 for The Villans.
Pellegrini is expected to move for Paul Pogba this summer, but is facing competition from sides on the continent, including Barcelona, and as such has been linked with certain players as backups – Lars Bender being one, Fabian Delph being the latest.
However, some might say a move for Delph is too typical of City’s transfer style in recent windows, especially with Khaldoon Al Mubarak’s promise of the signing of ‘high quality individuals’ this summer. As successful as Delph has been for Villa, it can be called into question who successful he would be at Eastlands and whether it would be worth signing him at all.
