Angelino is to spend the next few months with New York City, after completing a loan move from Manchester to New York for the final months of the Major League Soccer season. He joins Shay Facey in America, who could also be finishing with season with one of the MLS’ expansion franchises, if his current loan spell is extended as was previously rumoured.
Angelino has just come off the back of an extremely successful season with Patrick Vieira’s EDS side, a season which saw him play regularly, score a good amount of goals for a left-back and even break into City’s senior squad – even if he didn’t manage to make his debut.
There were rumours he could be sent to ply his trade on America’s east coast for a few months, although these were countered by logical points that City may think he’s too tired, or they wanted him to stay at Eastlands, and so on. Now, it would seem they are willing to let him join Jason Kreis’ team, as they look to recover from a poor start to the season.
Angelino will be able to play for New York City once the transfer window opens on July 8th, which is also when Frank Lampard can make his debut for his new team. The first NYCFC game after that date is a visit from Toronto, which could see Angelino making his professional debut at the age of 18.
Speaking about his new move, the Spanish left-back said “I’m very happy for the opportunity that Manchester City and New York City FC have given me.”
“To be able to play in MLS is a great opportunity for me and I am eager to get started. I can’t wait to get to New York and join my new teammates.”
