Sergio Aguero has made clear his commitment to City, after several early-summer links labelled him as a transfer target for Real Madrid, the side who appear to have been on his tail for several years now.
There were rumours Florentino Perez wanted to complete his dream of signing Sergio Aguero for Los Blancos, despite very few believing that this deal would go through, in order to appease Real fans disappointed with the sacking of Carlo Ancelotti and subsequent appointment of Rafa Benitez, who was linked with a move to City this summer. Aguero would mark perhaps the biggest signing of the summer for Real Madrid, although he’s now confirmed that he doesn’t want to return to Spain – the comment many City fans expected and hoped for.
Speaking ahead of Argentina’s second Copa America game against Uruguay, the striker said “the truth is, yes, I’m very happy. I’m enjoying these four years that I’ve had at City and there are still many more years to come. I’m very happy.”
“Every year City try to improve the team, and while I don’t know how it will be next season, obviously the club always wants us to win titles.”
Previously, it has been said Aguero wants to win the Champions League with City before departing the club – or when his current contract runs out, whichever comes first – and he spoke about Europe’s premier competition as well, saying “City are prepared to win titles every year. Obviously the Champions League is a great competition and I think that City are doing everything to win it.”
He also talked about personal awards, especially the coveted Balon D’Or prize, which is currently a two-man tussle between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
“The Premier League has this vision where [they want] everybody in the world to watch it so I have plenty of chances to at least be nominated for the Balon d’Or.”
“I think for any player it’s important. Playing in the Premier League obviously I have a lot of opportunities.”
“The truth is that I would be very happy with the Ballon d’Or. I had a great year. I missed some games but the season has been very good, no?”
He also talked about his injuries, which have blighted him over the past couple of years – although, thankfully, not so much this campaign and being an almost constant force in the City side has seen him win the Golden Boot for the first time in England.
“Because of the World Cup my lifestyle changed a little, the work I do and the food I eat, as I said, and today I feel a little better. I don’t get injured that much.”
“What happened at the World Cup and before the World Cup with City I try to make sure that it doesn’t happen again.”
