According to the Daily Mail, City are growing increasingly confident of bagging Raheem Sterling for less than the reported £50 million demanded by Liverpool, and are set to make a £40 million bid for the English winger this week, having already seen a £30m bid rejected by The Reds.
Liverpool have been thought to be keen to hold out for £50 million for the wantaway attacker, and were also thought to be hopeful of sparking a bidding war for the youngster in order to maximise their profit on him. However, this looks less likely to happen by the day, with other clubs having more important priorities and/or being unwilling to pay the fee that Liverpool want.
However, having already seen one attempt rejected, City look set to go back in with an improved £40 million bid for Sterling, but won’t go any higher than that in their attempts to sign the player. However, with a seeming lack of competition and his contract due to expire in 2017, Liverpool may well be willing to listen to offers lower than their asking price.
It had been thought previously that Sterling preferred a move back to London, the place of his birth, with one of Arsenal or Chelsea. However, this move now looks set to not materialise, and it’s seeming more likely that the attacker will be in sky blue come August.
