Another young City defender – Angelino – could soon find himself on loan at New York City according to journalist Juan Mesa, based in New York, who believes that Shay Facey is also set to extend his loan spell in America after spending the past few months playing for the Eastern Conference side on a temporary switch from Manchester City.
Facey moved to New York at the start of the season and has endured a mixed bag of performances, even being sent off earlier in the season. He’s somewhat struggled for gametime, but has been given more of a chance in recent games and was named man of the match against Philadelphia Union, in New York’s first win for almost three months.
This has led to speculation he could extend his loan move, which in reality would be good for him. He’d struggle to get into the team in England which he wouldn’t in America, and he’s already built up chemistry with the squad across the pond; why change that by moving him somewhere else? His original loan was due to end at the end of June, but Juan Mesa believes that may be extended.
Angelino could soon join him in Major League Soccer, with the same journalist reporting New York are interested in taking the youngster on loan. The left-back has gained widespread plaudits for his performances in the Elite Development Squad this season, and there’s been calls for Manuel Pellegrini to promote him to the senior squad for next season. That seems unlikely, but if he’s going out on loan then New York seems as good a place as any.
