Both City and Chelsea are thought to now be tracking Sergio Ramos’ situation at Real Madrid according to the Sunday People, with the Spaniard allegedly concerned that talks over a new deal in Spain’s capital have gone quietly, with just two years left to run on his current contract.
Ramos is expected to hold a meeting with Florentino Perez this week in order to work out where the situation over the deal is, and if he can’t seal a new contract with the La Liga side he could look at a Premier League move, with City and Chelsea reported suitors for the defender.
However, a bid this summer is unlikely, as the 29-year-old is expected to cost around £50 million, and given City’s priorities being elsewhere a bid of that magnitude seems unlikely, especially given his age.
If Benitez truly wants to keep the Spanish centre-back, which the Sunday People believe he does, then it’s difficult to see him not agreeing a new deal with the club he’s currently spent a decade at. In theory, the talks City and Chelsea may be eyeing him up could be scare tactics, in order to persuade Perez and Real Madrid to resume talks and agree a new deal.
