City could be about to make a bid for Fulham’s young star Patrick Roberts according to the Mail, as they look to build homegrown talent for the future say the Mail. He’s been linked with The Blues previously, but never looked like completing a move after making his Cottagers debut against City in March 2013.
The youngster has made a mark on Fulham’s team with 20 appearances this season, as well as caps at youth level for England. This has led to interest from big clubs, with City accompanied by Chelsea and Manchester United in their chase.
If the 18-year-old did sign for City, it would likely be for a fee in the region of £10 million plus performance-related bonuses, which seems steep given his young age. However, given his potential it could turn out to be fantastic value.
Fulham, keen to see their starlet continue his development unhindered, have offered Roberts a new contract on £5,000 per week, which pales in comparison to what clubs like Chelsea have offered him. However, if he does think he can make an impression on the first team squad of a big club, and the Mail believe he does, then it’s difficult to see him sticking around at Craven Cottage much longer.
