Despite heavy reported interest in international stars like Paul Pogba and Kevin De Bruyne, Joe Hart believes City will sign English – or at least homegrown – players this summer, with the list of homegrown players in the current City squad now reduced to just three thanks to contract expiries and early summer sales.
With players like James Milner, Micah Richards and Dedryck Boyata already confirmed to be going or gone, Hart now makes up a third of the homegrown players in the City squad, with French left-back Gael Clichy and third-choice goalkeeper Richard Wright (who has been given a new contract by The Blues) being the other two players.
This lack of young, homegrown talent has led to many links with homegrown players such as Danny Ings (who is now confirmed to be moving to Liverpool this summer) and Raheem Sterling (for whom City have just had a £30 million bid rejected) in recent months. However, Joe Hart doesn’t seem to be concerned, with him saying “It is a long summer ahead. With losing Frank [Lampard] and James [Milner] – and I’m not in the discussions of transfers – I imagine, given homegrown players and stuff like that, it will be top of their list to bring in English players or to promote some of the lads [from the academy].”
Of course, there have been rumours Pellegrini is set to promote Jason Denayer, Marcos Lopes and Kelechi Iheanacho to the first-team squad this summer, although City fans have now been promised high-quality signings by Khaldoon Al Mubarak, something which many are very excited to see the developments of.
