City’s summer clear-out is well-underway it seems. Out-of-contract James Milner signed for Liverpool six days ago and now more City players have ended their stay with the club – including the two big names.
Micah Richards has been a long-time servant to the club, a key figure over the years having been with the club when things weren’t so rosy. A combination of niggling injuries and the consistency of Pablo Zabaleta at right-back has well and truly disrupted Richards’ City career. He spent the 2014/15 campaign on loan at Fiorentina and though that was an appealing chapter worth exploring, he was not even a regular in Flornece.
Meanwhile, Guidetti had been earmarked as one of the club’s brightest prospects a couple of years back following a splendid season on loan at Feyenoord where he hit 20 goals. But he suffered a bizarre virus that left him sidelined for a prolonged period and he never really recovered. A rather pointless loan spell at Stoke did nothing for him and though he scored 15 goals on loan at Celtic, not many City fans expected him to have a future here.
In addition, both Greg Leigh and Adam Drury are part of the list having both returned from loan spells in 2014/15. Leigh had a stint in League One with Crewe Alexandra while Drury spent some time in Scotland with St Mirren.
Dominic Oduro, a Ghanian right-sided player who has been on loan at three different clubs around Europe in three years, has also been released.
