France’s L’Equipe believe that Manchester City are currently waiting on a letter from UEFA in order to confirm they’re free from the constraints of the Financial Fair Play restrictions placed upon them last summer. The receipt of this letter will mean that they’re free to make an offer of £240,000 per week to Paul Pogba, in order to lure him away from Juventus.
This contrasts with previous reports from press in Spain, which suggested Pogba was set to stay with Juve for another year, in order to get a move to Barcelona in 12 months’ time. This would mean rejecting a move from City, where he is thought to be one of the top targets this summer.
FFP restrictions hampered City’s spending last summer, which has led to the loss of the Premier League title this season, but the general consensus is that City will be free from the shackles this summer, which has resulted in them being linked with seemingly every name under the sun.
City are now waiting on a letter from UEFA that they are indeed free, although Paris Saint-Germain – about whom the L’Equipe story focuses on – who are also thought to be keen on signing Pogba aren’t in as good a situation, and they’re likely to still have a cap on their spending this summer.
If Pogba does leave Turin this summer, it’s looking increasingly likely he’ll be turning out in sky blue by the start of the new campaign.
