According to the Mirror, City are talking to the Premier League about the possibility of having an away game for the first league game of the 2015/15 season, as they look to put the finishing touches on a 6,000-seat expansion to Eastlands over the summer.
The plans for expansion are still only in their first phase, and the current campaign has seen construction on one end of the ground progress further and further, although it’s still seemingly far from finished. The Blues now have the summer to complete the expansion to the ground, before moving on to the opposite end of the ground soon.
However, with work still to be completed on the ground City have reportedly asked to play away in the first game of the season, to give them more time to finish the current construction project.
The current phase of expansion will mean The Blues have the third largest ground in the league behind Arsenal and Manchester United, and although the club believe expansion will be finished by the opening weekend of next season, they’d still prefer to be given that extra bit of time in order to make sure everything is in full working order.
Fixtures for next season are set to be announced June 17th.
