Kevin De Bruyne may be open to a move away from Wolfsburg this summer, and also revealed that he still doesn’t know why Jose Mourinho sold him back in January 2014. The Belgian signed for Chelsea in 2012 following good performances for Genk against them in the Champions League, but only made three league appearances for the Stamford Bridge outfit before moving to the Bundesliga on a permanent deal last year.
His time in Germany has been successful to say the least, and has led to him being linked with a move back to England with any of City, United or Chelsea (although the latter seems to have been ruled out) or to elsewhere in Europe. The deal wouldn’t be cheap, with fees possibly above £40 million – a steep increase on the £18 million paid by Wolfsburg for the 23-year-old less than 18 months ago.
He’s recently been voted as Bundesliga’s player of the year by Kicker, but speaking about a possible move he said “if I leave, I have no preference where I go. In my head, it is 95 % I won’t go to Russia or Italy. It is not my style of play.”
“But England, Spain, France or the Bundesliga, yes. They are the best leagues. They are some very good teams. That appeals to me.”
Speaking about his former Chelsea boss, Jose Mourinho, the Belgium international revealed “I still don’t understand why Jose Mourinho let me leave. I never discussed it with him. I started to play and then it was finished.”
“After four months, I asked him to leave. I didn’t want to stay at a club where I wasn’t even playing for 10 minutes. He said it was my attitude in training? It is an excuse he can use.”
Wolfsburg are understandably extremely keen to keep hold of their star midfielder, but it’s difficult to see him staying their if City – or another club – really want to sign the 23-year-old.
