David Silva is back in America, as he goes for surgery on his ankle in a bid to recover from the ailment going into the new season, with a busy domestic and international campaign ahead of him.
The 29-year-old was hampered during the 2014-15 season by a dodgy ankle, but made it through to the end of the campaign, before going on a tour of North America post-season with the squad. Whether he’s now returned to America or never left is irrelevant, what matters is that he’s having surgery to clear up the ankle problems.
This is the first free summer David Silva has had for four years, with Euro 2012, the Confederations Cup and then the 2014 World Cup all impacting on his free time. Now, with time to spare, he’s decided to fix the ankle injury ahead of what could be a huge campaign for City and Spain.
The Blues need to recover from this season’s slump and challenge for the title, and a fit David Silva could be the difference between first and second. He could also be a huge benefit in the Champions League race. Meanwhile, Spain go into Euro 2016 in France as title holders, and he’ll want to be able to help his country retain their title next year.
