With interest in the French midfielder expected to be high this summer, Sunderland could have Seko Fofana on their shortlist of potential signings after the youngster had a successful loan spell at Fulham this season, according to the Sunderland Echo. They are thought to be one of a number of clubs tracking the 20-year-old.
The midfielder has been with City’s youth side since 2013, when he joined from Lorient, but as of yet has been unable to break into the senior squad, despite calls from some sections of City fans for him to be given a chance. He moves on loan to Craven Cottage and Fulham in November 2014, with that loan spell then being extended until the end of the season.
He went on to make 25 appearances for The Cottagers as they finished 17th in the Championship and reached the fourth round of the FA Cup. He returned to City following the expiry of his temporary deal in early May, and featured for Patrick Vieira’s EDS side, but has been linked with a loan move next season. Along with Sunderland, clubs such as West Brom and Marseille are thought to have shown an interest.
And Fofana is also keen to go back out on loan having realised he may struggle to break into City’s side next season, despite there being calls from fans to install several younger players in the senior squad this summer. He still wants to make it at City, but said last month “I want to continue to play regularly to progress”, which would indicate that he’s keen to be loaned out somewhere next year.
